Michelle Obama’s Dress - election night dress ???

Last night not only marked the historic election of Barack Obama, but also his wife Michelle Obama taking on the role of First Lady. We’ve already seen her refined sense of style on the campaign trail, and Michelle upped the style quotient with a fashion-forward Narciso Rodriguez sheath for her husband’s acceptance speech last night. We applaud Michelle’s support for a top American designer and admire her ability to pull off high style with ease. But we want to know what you thought of her dress!

Michelle Obama’s Election Day Dress, The Lob, And Target’s New Designer

Such a historic night! Such an inspiring speech!

And -- sorry, but we have to say it -- such a disasterous dress.

The fashion community is almost speechless about our soon-to-be First Lady Michelle Obama's strange red and black dress.

Blame it on Narciso Rodriquez, a New York fashion designer, who made the bizarre dress that looked more like a Halloween costume than an election night frock.

It's from his spring '09 collection and is described as a red and black sleeveless sheath with a criss-crossed black satin cummerbund.

So that's what that thing is called? Good to know. Now we will avoid dresses with cummerbunds at all cost.

It was great for Michelle to support an American designer. She's been doing that a lot during the campaign, wearing J. Crew, Thakoon, Isabel Toledo and Maria Pinto.

But surely one look in a full-length mirror would have told her that this dress was not flattering.

However, it did match well with her daughters' red and black choices.

Where can you buy Michelle Obama’s election night dress?

For I’m sure Michelle Obama’s election night dress will sell even better than that black and white store dress she wore on The View.

Just digging around, I’ve found the Narcisco Rodriguez collection on Berdorf Goodman, and more here at Neiman Marcus, but I’m still looking for the specific dress Michelle Obama wore.

I also see that Michelle Obama’s dress was part of Narcisco Rodriguez’ Spring 2009 Ready to Wear collection, and seeing as though I’ve never purchased a pret-a-porte dress — that I can think of — I want to know how to find this dress.

Michelle Obama Pregnant ???

Is Michelle Obama pregnant? The wife of presidential contender Barack Obama is all set for her big moment in the sun on Monday in Denver as she is speaking at the Democratic National Convention. Her goal is to makeover her image that has taken a pounding ever since she first said that she had never been proud of the United States of America until her husband was favored to win the White House.

So where are all of these inquiries about Michelle Obama being pregnant coming from? One report blames it on Rush Limbaugh and claims that the conservative radio talk show host got all of this started with what appears to be a little poking and prodding and with what may have been a throw away line. Though I didn't hear the show today it is being reported that Rush Limbaugh has said that he believes Michelle Obama may have a big announcement to make tonight in Denver.

According to a report, "On his radio broadcast this morning, Rush Limbaugh speculated that Michelle Obama may have an announcement to make in her speech to the Democratic Convention tonight." That must have leaped to the Michelle Obama is pregnant reports.

Michelle Obama and her husband Barack Obama were married on October 18, 1992, and controversial preacher and Barack mentor Rev. Jeremiah Wright performed the ceremony. They were married at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois. Right now the couple have two daughters, Malia Ann Obama was born in 1999 and Natasha Obama was born in 2001. Is there another on the way or is this speculation blown way out of proportion?

Obama’s baby

Last night I had some theoretical thoughts about Obama -

What would happen if Barack & Michelle Obama decided that they want a third child while they still can (She was born in 1964, which makes her 44)?

They could conceive it this week in Denver, and when the time comes (maybe in a month or so) announce that Michelle Obama is pregnant and is due in June 2009.

So my questions are: Do you think that such an announcement will help him win the election in November?

Will that be the first (legitimate) baby born to a sitting president?

If it’s (another) girl, will it be ok if they name her America Obama?

Michelle Obama Campaigning in Her Own Little Way

After surfing the web, you cannot help but realize how Michelle Obama is relating to women all over the country in her own little way. Though this campaign in underway, her persona definitely is relatable to the average American woman.

Appearing on The View, utilizing fashion for campaigning and also providing her favorite recipe in the Family Circle Magazine, Michelle has definitely played the average American woman role. My question to my readers now is…does Michelle’s outreach to women somehow benefit Barrack Obama in the 2008 Election?

Appearing on The View Michelle says to the cast, “I have to be greeted properly, fistbump please.” She goes further to explain that this is her new signature bump and that she is not that hip. She learned the fistbump from the younger generation and relates it to the “new high-five”.

With the audience laughing, this simple statement or action has led women to assume that she is just one of us. Not acting as if she could possibly be the country’s first African-American First Lady, Michelle’s personality is warming as she appears to be the girl next door.

Bringing forth something new to Family Circle Magazine also enables Michelle to prove her ability to be different not following the crowd. “In the past four presidential elections, readers of the magazine have successfully predicted who would be America’s next first lady by favoring her recipe in the magazine’s competition.

Something with chocolate has melted the hearts of readers in the last four elections. So both Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain might be taking a risk by eschewing everyone’s favorite treat. Instead, Michelle Obama has put forward a recipe for shortbread cookies with zest of lemon and orange, and a cheeky kick of almond liqueur Amaretto”. I’m sure supporters are endorsing this treat as they endorse Obama.

I definitely feel that a down-to-earth First Lady can yield votes to Barrack Obama in some weird way. I personally feel that the average American sways toward people who make them comfortable as well as relatable – and Michelle is definitely working that aspect of the campaign.

Michelle Obama's Appearance on The View

Michelle Obama's guest host slot on ABC's morning gab-fest was either brilliant or calculated, depending on your point of, um, view. The Daily News places the wife of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama on the front page for her fashion prowess. Obama donned a $148 black-and-white dress from White House/Black Market, a store dedicated to (you guessed it) black and white clothing.

The Daily News dubs the appearance a success, noting that she "fist-bumped" her co-hosts a la her moment with her husband when he clinched the nomination. She chatted about her family's love of bacon and her hatred of wearing pantyhose (they're "painful" and "always rip"). Obama even proved she was human when she flubbed and accidentally referred to her husband as "sweet, pathetic," when she meant empathetic. News columnist David Hinckley described Obama as a "21st century Welcome Wagon hostess" and her appearance as "an effective counter to insinuations she's angry and aggressive."

The Post, on the other hand, describes the appearance as "lame." Andrea Peyser writes, "It was as painful as a root canal to watch Michelle try so hard to show her feminine side. She mainly succeeded in looking bored and superior." This "bored and superior" claim is juxtaposed with a picture of Obama giving the "fist bump" to Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Obama is smiling and giddy. The paper also runs down a list of "Highlights and lowlights" that include her "Most cringe-worthy moment" (a tie between the pantyhose comment and when she brushed some lint off Matthew Broderick's shoulder) and "Proof positive the Obamas are not Muslim" (in which Obama declares that the Obama family are "bacon people!" at breakfast).

The New Michelle Obama, Changing Role Of The First Lady

Hmmm… Has the media embraced Michelle Obama’s new “Image”? uh…yes,
in a huge way. In fact, while researching her image, there were so many
headlines to choose from, I decided put them all up. This was one of the most
intersting The Wall Street Journal: Michelle Obama: Fashion’s New Darling

Of course, this is merely one hour of television in the midst of a long campaign, but it shows that there is an attempt to "rehab" Michelle Obama's image so that she does not come off as a 1992-era Hillary "I don't bake cookies" Clinton. The dress is a perfect example. It shows that despite her high-paying job as a Harvard-educated attorney, she is still "of the people." A $148 dress is out of reach of many in America, but it's a much closer representation of realistic fashion than the usual outfits she wears. It's surprising that the Post didn't take Obama to task for that, for some form of "fashion pandering." It would have been more legitimate that complaining about Obama "offer[ing] the back of her hand to Elisabeth Hasselbeck."

June 2008: Reports said Michelle Obama was looking to soften her
public image in the wake of husband Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
