Actor Verne Troyer wants a federal judge's help in getting back a sex tape he says was stolen and portions of which were widely broadcast by celebrity gossip site TMZ.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 25-second snippet of video showing Verne Troyer and a former girlfriend Renae Schrider having sex that was available online over the past couple of days is all the world will see of the tape — for now.

A federal judge on Friday granted a temporary restraining order requested by Troyer's attorneys that prevents porn distributors from taking orders for the full-length video, and prevents TMZ from broadcasting any more clips.

The celebrity Web site posted the short segment on its site on Wednesday; Troyer sued the site and porn distributors on Thursday for $20 million in damages.

U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez wrote that Troyer's motion "demonstrated that he will suffer irreparable harm to his reputation" if the tape is distributed. It barred further broadcasting of the tape, which Troyer's attorney, Tracy Rane, interpreted as meaning that TMZ has to remove the video from its site.

TMZ removed the snippet of the tape by late Friday afternoon, instead redirecting Web viewers to its homepage. Another post describing the lawsuit remained active Friday.

Troyer, who is most famous for his role as "Mini Me" in two of the "Austin Powers" movies, claims the sex tape he made with a former girlfriend was stolen from his home some months ago.

TMZ, which did not return telephone messages left by The Associated Press on Friday, reported that the video could fetch $100,000 from a porn distributor. SugarDVD wrote in a statement on its Web site that hoped to reach a deal with Troyer to distribute the full, 50-minute version.

Gutierrez also indicated in his ruling that he may be inclined to issue a more forceful preliminary injunction in the case unless TMZ and other parties demonstrate why it should be released.

Troyer's suit claims release of an excerpt of the tape was an invasion of privacy and copyright infringement. He is also seeking the return of all copies of the video.

His suit claims he made the tape with his former girlfriend and never intended it to be shown publicly.

The lawsuit included a pair of letters e-mailed to TMZ and SugarDVD telling both entities to remove mentions of the tape from their Web sites and halt any further plans to distribute it.

Verne Troyer Scandal Expected Shortly

Back in the Day-Glo parachute pants innocence of the 1980’s, something as profligate and titillatingly licentious as a publicly released homemade sex tape could be horribly damming to a celebrity. Even after appearing in a nude, pelvic thrust sex scene with Demi Moore in the 1986 film “About Last Night”, it was still a scandalous revelation and a significant hurtle to actor Rob Lowe’s career two years later, when a videotaped ménage-a-trois with two female fans was put into circulation.

Following the ‘big bang’ of celebrity sex tapes, however, in which Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee unwittingly planted the seeds of social acceptance in the fertile internet soil of a dawning information age, a new universe was created in which sex tapes would not only be touted by celebrities (i.e. Justin “Screech” Diamond) but the very means by which the phenomenon of celebrity could be created (i.e. Kim Kardashian).

Reaching critical mass and jumping the shark as of yesterday, it was announced the latest big-name celebrity appearing in a priced-to-sell DVD will be none other than 2-foot 8-inch “Austin Powers” co-star Verne Troyer.

The Jim Carrey of little people actors, Troyer can be seen in a teaser for the upcoming DVD posted on website TMZ, kissing his former live-in girlfriend, 22 year-old Ranae Shrider, in the buff, before creepily slipping his tongue into the aspiring model’s mouth. According to the official story, the tape was stolen from the couple’s apartment, perhaps by the same burglar responsible for thieving the Pam and Tommy video.

Celebrity sex-tape broker Kevin Blatt, the man behind Paris Hilton’s hugely successful “One Night in Paris”, is reportedly brokering the deal for SugarDVD, and offering $100,000 for exclusive distribution rights.

No word yet, as of Thursday evening, on the status of Rana Shrider’s reality series, no-doubt already in the works.

Ranae Shrider Biography

Ranae Shrider is 22 years old and 5′9″ tall. She has brown eyes and black hair. She and Vern Troyer lived together for about six months and supposedly even considered marriage before breaking up. Apparently shortly before their breakup, they decided to film one of their sexual escapades in their New York apartment. Perhaps it will make them a little money. Unfortunately for them, money can’t buy class.

It looks like the hookup with Verne didn’t do Ranae Shrider much good. There is very little information available about her. Has she landed any modeling jobs? Acting, perhaps? Looks like her only claim to fame is doing the dirty with Verne Troyer.
